Over the Rainbow

I began this cold and rainy day discouraged and, frankly, the plan was to spend it buried at home doing laundry, reading tawdry headlines and eating bad food. But my plans were foiled when happy messages, people and calls popped up all day, refusing to let me forget all that is good about the lovely people in my life – you know who you are. And as if that wasn’t enough, just as my boy and his friends emerged from school a rainbow appeared and they took it as a sign that JM, who used to emerge from school with them, was there to greet them. Everyone whipped out their phones to record the moment, and JM’s Mom, who happened to be there, was touched and thrilled.

“Is he straight from heaven?’ my boy asked.

“Yes, lots of people are,” I answered.
